About Katrina Heywood.

Katrina is the Assistant Head for the Explorers age phase of Newfield.

Katrina leads and manages the department, supporting colleagues and developing learning opportunities. She is passionate about early childhood development and developing play-based learning approaches.

Currently, Katrina is pursuing a nationally recognised Early Years Leadership qualification (NPQEYL) through the National Institute of Teaching. She also holds a middle leadership qualification from the National College for Teaching and School Leadership, alongside a master’s degree in Autism Spectrum Conditions.

Since joining Newfield in September 2010, Katrina has built strong relationships with Newfield families as their children begin their educational journey with us. Over the years, she has developed and delivered a range of training programs for both school staff and parents. Her expertise has also extended to mainstream schools, where she offers guidance, support, and training.

Katrina is responsible for curriculum development within the Explorers phase, as well as staff development, supporting Early Career Teachers (ECTs) and apprentice teachers. Additionally, she plays a key role in whole-school development for specialist provisions.

Safeguarding

Newfield School is committed to safeguarding and protecting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults as its number one priority.
