Exploring Amazing Animals

This term, our explorer children have been learning about the wonderful world of amazing animals. We have been exploring animals that live in different habitats including farms, pets, wild animals and arctic animals. As we approach Easter we have started to focus on life cycles and animals that hatch from eggs.

Today, for our Wow event we had Emily’s Mini Farm visit our school. This special event gave every explorer child an opportunity to get up close and personal with a range of animals. This gave pupils an opportunity to learn how to handle them with care and experience first-hand the importance of gentle touches and respecting animals.

During the visit our explorers met a variety of animals, each one offering a different sensory experience. They interacted with very cute and friendly chicks, two tortoises named Shelly and Bowser, a giant rabbit called Flopsy who was very calm and fluffy and some playful guinea pigs. We also observed some very energetic dwarf hamsters who loved to run on their wheel and our pupils’ showed lots of curiosity when watching them run and burrow in their cage. Every child seemed to enjoy meeting the animals and their faces lit up with smiles and excitement as the children had those wow moments, making it a truly memorable day.

The event enriched our curriculum on amazing animals and also built confidence and sensory awareness for our youngest children in school. It was a pleasure to see our children embracing the experience.
