Today we celebrate World Teachers’ Day 2024 - it’s actually the 5th October, so tomorrow… but we wanted to let our teachers know how much we appreciate them!
Classes have secretly made apples and cards for their teachers during the lunch break when they are out of class!
Today, they gave them their apples and we collected them all in a fancy basket - look how many there are!
We also gave teachers a cake voucher, which they could use at the post 16 Potters Cafe to collect a delicious free cake of their choice… yum!
World Teachers’ Day is an occasion to celebrate the profound impact teachers have on society by equipping students with the skills, knowledge, and values needed for success.
UNESCO proclaimed 5th October to be World Teachers’ Day in 1994, celebrating the great step made for teachers on 5 October 1966, when a special intergovernmental conference convened by UNESCO in Paris adopted the UNESCO/ILO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers, in cooperation with the ILO.
As a Rights Respecting School it is important in our role as ambassadors for UNICEF that we remind people about the rights that all children in the world have - the CRC Articles.
Those linked to education and especially important to us are:
- Article 23: Children who have any kind of disability should have special care and support so that they can lead full and independent lives.
- Article 28: Children have a right to an education. Discipline in schools should respect children’s human dignity. Primary education should be free. Wealthy countries should help poorer countries achieve this.
- Article 29: Education should develop each child’s personality and talents to the full. It should encourage children to respect their parents and their own and other cultures.
Just want to say a MASSIVE THANK YOU to everyone that has contributed to the Teacher Appreciation Day. This is the first time in my teaching career of 18 years that I have received a voucher for cake. It was delicious! it has made my day.
