Curriculum - Cognition and Learning

As we kick start the new school year all classes are a hive of activity as we get to know each other and begin our learning journey as a class.

Our youngest pupils in Explorers are focusing on Terrific Transport this term, looking at journeys both close to home and far away, and lots of different vehicles. This topic lends itself fantastically well to exploration of position and direction, shape and space and of course lots of counting and development of number sense as we explore the world around us. We will explore the construction of vehicles and will look at transport in both the small and large scale, utilising our outdoor spaces in all weathers.

In our Primary department we focus on all things Festivals! Using this exciting and diverse topic we will explore light through experimentation and investigation and will develop our artistic skills in 2D art, music and singing! Older Primary pupils will explore the human element of Festivals both those which are familiar or close to home and those which we may not have had much experience of, including historical events.

Our Secondary pupils will unleash their creative side with an Upcycle, recycle, create focus. They will explore why we use particular products, materials and the environments they are used in. Applying these skills to make their own creations for various purposes. Key Stage 4 will take this one step further, looking around the World at environments far and wide with a focus on the traditional artistry in different parts of the World.

Our Preformal learners will use all their senses to explore fabulous festivals and celebration, including the fantastic colours, familiar and new music genres and delicious smells we associate with this time of year. Pupils will develop their sensory awareness, self-expression and choice making through exploring exciting new experiences involving light, texture and cause and effect.

In our Post 16 department our oldest learners are beginning their work on preparation for the future and possible employment. They will be completing work on food and drink preparation with a focus on preparing for an event, preparing for a range of enterprise events building towards Christmas!
