Today we had some learning disability nurses - Meghan, Mel and Deb - come into school and show the students what would happen if they went for an annual health check.
All young people with a learning disability are entitled to an annual health check from the age of 14 with their family GP - this is a really good thing to do - both to get to know your GP surgery, and for them to get to know you, before you become an adult and no longer have a paediatrician.
The group today looked at the equipment that you would see on a health check appointment to do heights, weights, blood pressure etc; what our urine and poo look like if we are healthy and not dehydrated and everyone enjoyed learning about this!
The students interacted really well with the nurses and were very pleased to receive some goodie bags containing information and a water bottle.
Students in TG4 who attended the session then wrote about it in their first weekly newsletter - which looks great as you can see.
