World Book Day 2023

We have an action packed day planned today for World Book Day!

Children in primary classes are wearing pyjamas and secondary pupils are wearing clothes they like to relax in; we will be sending home the book vouchers with every pupil; Each class is decorating a canvas to represent a book they enjoy - to display in library in the SEND building; There is a book trail around school and in the halls and studios there are special story sessions to share a book - a night time studio session with blankets for a bed time story or reading to relax in the Blackburn hall with bean bags and comfy chairs.

Teachers can book a library slot to visit with their classes and there are now new QR codes in the library to introduce audio books and improve accessibility of our libraries.

An exciting new initiative that we are Introducing is ‘drop everything and read’.

From WBD onwards every class is to introduce a 5-10min slot in their timetable where they ‘drop everything and read’. This could be before dinner, before home, the start of the afternoon or any other time that works for the class. When the libraries were set up we ordered LOADS of recommended reading packs of high quality literature for different ages so there is lots to choose from.

There are also lots of big books in the SEND resource room - It is a good opportunity to model handling books, and turning pages, whilst ensuring that children are exposed to and share a range of high-quality stories which are beyond the level they can read themselves with a focus on reading for pleasure.
