Developing Reading

At the start of this year, all of our teachers had a session on delivering and developing use of phonics to help children to start to read.

All of the EHCAs also had some training on this from our TLR for Communication and English, Sarah Chester, at a twilight session during the autumn term.

To further promote our children’s love of reading, teachers Sarah and Shannon have been busy making our libraries even more exciting places to be!

Both libraries now have sensory books, chapter books, picture books for reading for pleasure, banded phonics books for primary and banded phonics books for secondary.

The SEND library also has shelves for bilingual books, audio books and dictionaries. We have some librarians from TG1 who try to keep it all in order!

We think they look lovely and cosy, giving everyone a nice environment to share a book and experience reading for pleasure.

Don’t forget we have the book fair in school in December, where books can be bought, which in turn raises money for books for our libraries.
