Today children across school have been busy celebrating Lunar New Year - also known as Chinese New Year. This year is year of the Tiger.
The tiger is commonly associated with something like bravery, courage and strength, but can also be viewed as an uplifting animal that can give people hope, good especially for the challenges we face with COVID-19.
We have been learning that red is a lucky colour, enjoyed some lovely activities involving dragon and lion dances, made our own dragons, read fortune cookies and tasted some delicious food!
Many classes looked at lanterns and enjoyed stories associated with the animals linked to the new year.
S2 had fun using chopsticks with noodles and rice and have been making dragons and lucky fish. They also enjoyed word searches, tiger symmetry, writing Chinese numbers and letters and making origami money wallets.
EYFS made tiger cookies, Chinese lanterns and enjoyed a sensory story with lots of Chinese resources to touch, smell, look at and listen to - noodles, flowers, drums, money, rice, soy sauce, a tiger, torches and bubble wrap to create fireworks. They finished with a sensory studio session and a dragon dance.
We hope all of the 1.5 billion people across the world celebrating have a wonderful time taking part in the festivities.
S1 had a fabulous time celebrating Lunar New Year. We made tiger decorations, lucky red envelopes and did some dragon and lion dancing. We had a super Chinese banquet tasting spring rolls, noodles and rice! Yum!
