Learning at the Library

TG1 have been visiting Great Harwood Library on alternate Monday mornings as part of our community visits. It’s very spacious and there is a lovely reading area we can use. The students choose their own books, with staff guidance where appropriate, before all sitting together to work on our individual reading and communication targets.

Some of the wide ranging literacy and communication targets the students are working on are; identifying key words in a book, following instructions to carry out an independent activity confidently when out in the community, responding to staff to answer questions about a story and discussing events and characters in a story and answering questions about a text discussing how they feel and also predicting what may happen next.

It’s also giving students a valuable opportunity to work on their targets in a different environment and also communicate with library staff and other members of the public using the facility.
