This week our visiting artist, Alastair Nicholson has returned to work with our students on a piece of art for Blackburn Rail Station.
For months we had been collecting milk bottle lids which have been melted down in sheets of thin plastic. Our students have then been cutting this plastic and creating their own design for a sign to promote recycling and using the correct bins at the rail station.
It has been great fun for the students to see all their bottle caps turned into wonderful little pieces of art. We’ve had trees, flowers, butterflies and many other lovely designs by our students.
Alastair also extended his skills to teaching Newfield staff how to use a pottery wheel so we too can bring some new art skills to the classroom. It’s a lot harder than it looks but with we’re sure our students will enjoy exploring the wonderful sensory elements on the pottery wheel.
Many thanks to Alastair for being so accommodating and sharing his wonderful skills with the Newfield family.
The art work will hopefully be up around December, so keep your eyes peeled!
