Today we celebrated the official opening of our wonderful School for Autism @ Newfield.
We had many special guests including Harry Catherall, Chief Executive of BwD Council, The Mayor Councillor of BwD Pat McFall, Maureen Bateson MBE, the portfolio holder for Education and Health, Tim Potter, the Architect of the building, Shaun Gash, Motivational Disability Speaker and many other visitors and dignitaries linked with school as well as parents and governors.
Our Head Teacher Geoff and Harry Catherall made speeches about the lengthy planning and building of the school and thanked all of the support from the many people in the council to make this exciting project happen for our special children.
Shaun Gash showed a video of how he has overcome his own disabilities and encouraged us all to embrace life and succeed.
At the end of the ceremony, the choir came and sang - Geoff said that these children are the inspiration behind of the hard work that goes on - and after this Harry unveiled the plaque commemorating the opening of the new school.
Tim Potter was asked to come and cut the beautiful cake that the catering team had made for the occasion - this will be given to the children for lunch tomorrow.
Our guests enjoyed tours of the school and met some of the children, and were then treated to a delicious afternoon tea.
Blackburn Rovers football stars came along and spent time with the children and guests - everyone enjoyed meeting Rover the mascot and having their photos taken!
It was a wonderful celebration of all of the hard work and commitment that has gone into getting our School for Autism @ Newfield built and running so well - thanks to everyone involved in the project and to our guests for attending today!
