This afternoon students from Stonyhurst College came into school and took part in a Disability Awareness session. Previously Stonyhurst students have been involved in wheelchair dancing with some of our students for many years, coming into school each Wednesday afternoon to support pupils in these sessions. We are hopefully going to encourage more Stonyhurst students to come and join our sessions.
The students all participated in the Disability Awareness activities, even when they said it felt really hard. they experienced being pushed in a wheelchair, being blindfolded and walking around, trying to tie laces and fasten buttons with gloves on, to imitate fine motor difficulties, and tasting foods without seeing them or being told what they were! The students said it made them realise how hard it must be for some of our students and how important it is to support them effectively.
