Today we had some visitors from Dan’s Trust who came to meet pupils and have a look around school. They have donated some funds to the school which are being used to support children’s communication. Dan’s Trust is a charity that was set up in memory of a young man by his family. Peter and Shelagh Bagshaw, Dan’s parents, visited school and had a wonderful time meeting children, seeing the work we do and talking to staff about Dan, the charity and the work that their donation will help school to do. After leaving Clitheroe Royal Grammar, Dan graduated from Oxford University and became an international lawyer with a bright future ahead of him. He was a very fit athlete who raised money for worthy causes and at the age of 27, having just completed a triathlon, he tragically died. His family set up ‘Dan’s Trust’ as a charity in his memory to raise money for research and to support youngsters to reach their potential as he pushed himself to do. Dan’s Trust launched their ‘Make a Difference Award’ scheme in 2016 across 12 schools in the Ribble Valley and Hyndburn. These schools have been allocated funds to distribute among talented, deserving pupils of their choosing. In 2017 they are extending this scheme to Burnley, Padiham, Blackburn and Darwen and Newfield is delighted and very grateful to have been allocated funding as part of Dan’s legacy. We look forward to inviting Shelagh and Peter, along with other trustees, into school again.
