Sports Week

This week is National Schools Sport Week and here at Newfield we will be completing different Olympic sports every day. Monday started off with everyone in the school taking part in class Boccia sessions, where they split into two teams and competed against each other to see who would win. The game of Boccia can be played by rolling or throwing the ball at different speeds, heights and angles to get the closest to the white target ball. As well as the physical skills learnt, they developed team skills, taking turns, coordination, competition and enjoyment. Over the week children will also have the opportunity to explore and try different field and track athletics games. These include: hurdles, javelin, discus and gymnastics.

Ideas and activities have been provided for all children to explore sports throughout sessions in class. The photo today shows Class 4 using their own made paper plate tennis bats and playing a game of sitting balloon tennis. They thoroughly enjoyed both making the equipment and playing this game. All children are looking forward to see what other activities and games they will explore throughout the week.
