BwD Communication for All

This afternoon over 60 members of BwD staff from across a range of services attended a ‘Communication for All’ event held in school. This started off with a sing-and-sign-a-long performance by the Newfield school choir, which everyone thoroughly enjoyed - we were very impressed with how quickly the audience picked up the children’s signing and were able to participate! Guest speakers gave information about how to communicate with people with a range of impairments - Visual, Hearing, Learning disability, Communication - and it was really interesting to share ideas and practical tips with those who do not necessarily have specialist knowledge of supporting communication. At the end there was an overview of the Local Offer as well as an opportunity to look around stalls and have a chat with the speakers, as well as gather information and have a go using a range of high and low tech communication aids. Obviously communication is really important to us at Newfield, so we were pleased to host the well attended event and share the company of so many BwD staff including Sue Hayward and Counsellor Maureen Bateson. thanks to everyone involved in making the event such a success!
