Today Newfield school enjoyed the first day of our third annual Religious Education week. This year we are looking at God as a protector and how this is shown in different religions. We began the week today by looking at the Jewish festival Purim and the story of Esther. The primary department enjoyed a session in the hall, including the story of Esther, traditional ways for children to celebrate Purim and having a go at making Hamantaschen: traditional sweet biscuits or pastries filled with poppy seeds or fruit.
The secondary department were treated to a session in the studio, looking at traditions carried out in the synagogue including the rather more boisterous and noisy recounting of the story, drowning out the name of Haman with Groggers and stamping of feet.
