Buddhism Day - Namaste

Today is Buddhism day and we focused on the festival of Wesak. This is celebrated to remember when Buddha became enlightened. It is celebrated by going to the temple, sharing food, making offerings to the monks. We had Vidusi, who is a Buddhist, joining us for part of the day.

Everyone took part in the following activities:

  • Pod 1 – sensory story about the 4 sights and Buddha’s enlightenment
  • Pod 2 – Buddhist temple – exploring artefacts etc
  • Pod 3 – Sharing vegetarian food
  • Studio – Buddhist prayer and meditation

Today’s studio session was a quiet, peaceful, reflective session and an opportunity to experience Buddhist prayer/meditation and some of the artefacts associated with that. As part of this, there was a water tray with lovely fresh flowers in and a water fountain.

In classes, pupils made lotus flowers and lanterns. Everyone is feeling at peace with the universe as they go home after our Buddhism day - ‘Namaste’ (peace be with you) to everyone.
