Newfield had a fantastic blue day today for World Autism Awareness Day. The atrium was filled with the colour blue as well as the staff and children joining in by dressing in blue. We had lots of events happening, including; a Light it up blue lantern making competition and hot air balloon competition. The winners for these were Class 2, TG4, R5 and TG3. We also had many visitors attend the day, including; school governor Joan Bamber, parents, members of the National Autistic Society and our link Primary Schools. The police helped us to Light it up blue by attending and allowing our pupils to turn on the blue flashing lights and sound the horn on the police car. Other activities throughout the day included a parent’s coffee morning and Autism Awareness Talk, as well as, opportunities for the pupils to take part in sensory, communication and social interaction activities. We sold Tshirts - which you can see being made in the photo. The whole event was supported with schedules and visual cues. All the children seemed to have great day and created some wonderful art work for the event!
