It’s been fair trade fortnight and pupils from Newfield school have been taking part in lots of activities to learn about fair trade. Every day the tuck shop has sold only fair trade products. Food technology lessons have used fair trade ingredients. There has been a ‘tea treasure hunt’ after learning how tea is grown and how fair trade has improved the life of one particular family. Pupils decided how much money to pay the five key people involved in banana production and learned how little of this money goes to the hard working banana growers. A popular activity was touching, smelling and tasting fair trade foods and identifying the product by using these senses. Both the pupils and the staff learned a lot about fair trade – did you know you can buy fair trade footballs???
