Today, we had an amazing time, taking part in a special event for our creative curriculum theme of history. The team from Blackburn Community Archery Project did a wonderful job teaching all of 11-19 how to shoot arrows! We had demonstrations from them, shooting an arrow through an apple on a (fake) head, and then everyone had a go at shooting at targets. We explored chain mail costumes and were able to handle different types of bows and arrows, both old and modern. Each class had a section of the Bayeux tapestry to complete, and at the presentation ceremony in the afternoon we were able to put it together and it looks fantastic! The rain managed to stay away long enough for us to enjoy the shooting arrows in the Battle of Newfield and all in all it was a really good experience, helping history to come to life. Thank you to Norman and the men of Blackburn Community Archery Project for making it such a great day and special thanks to teacher Lois for finding the archery group, getting them in and organising a hugely enjoyable event!
