Today we joined people across Europe in celebrating European Day of Languages with our very own international street market! We had stalls set out, each representing a country and its language, along with jigsaws and sound matching activities exploring languages. Children and staff visited the market, exploring and experiencing new languages and cultures, as well as celebrating their own. Lots of classes ran the stalls - with pictures, flags, words, artifacts, music, sensory objects and obviously, being Newfield food to taste! The countries and languages represented today were - Scotland, Wales, Spain, Poland, China, England, France, Ireland, Hawaii, Germany, India, Pakistan, Brazil and Italy! Film Club also put on a screening of animated film in Japanese in the Atrium. Everyone had an absolutely fantastic time and loved listening to new words, learning about different countries and tasting some amazing foods - a highlight was the Polish dish ‘Bigos’ - which is a hunters stew - cooked by Ewaline, one of our TA’s with the help of Rafal, a student - both of whom come from Poland. Thank you to everyone involved for creating such a special atmosphere.
