Community Artist Pottery Workshops

Students in the 11-19 phase of school are learning about the world of work in their creative curriculum sessions and for the next 3 days we have an artist in residence to help children to experience working as a potter. Local Community Artist, Alistair Nicholson, will be working with Tutor Groups 1-7 and the ARC classes 3-6 in the green room with his potter’s wheel. All pupils will be able to have a go and we are looking towards pupils making the following:

  • Small dish using the potter’s wheel
  • Handmade coil vase
  • Coloured dish using the potter’s wheel
  • Group coloured dish

Most of the work will be able to go home on the day that it is made, but one of the pieces will be fully glazed and will be returned to school at a later stage to go on show. We are really excited about having a go working with clay and experiencing ‘A day in the life of a Potter’.
