Today, our group of students who attend Myerscough College each week practised their emerging carpentry skills to make bird boxes. They made two boxes to give local birds a home for the winter. One has a round hole, which will hopefully encourage small birds such as blue tits to nest in it. The other has a long slot entrance, which is supposed to be better for larger birds such as robins. The students used saws, files and hammers to make the boxes and had a fantastic time. They all managed to keep all of their fingers, which made us very pleased! The boxes have been sited at the front and back of school by Sean, one of our site supervisors, with assistance from some of the students. They are very proud of their creations and are now awaiting some feathered friends to make use of them.
