To commemorate Remembrance Day, we at Newfield School have been exploring the themes behind the event, trying to give a perspective of what the event means. Each class created artworks in recognition of the event, taking the opportunity to celebrate everyone’s creativity during a special remembrance assembly, culminating in a performance of The Last Post by our very own Lois Talbot. During the playing of this, and the ‘Reveille’, we watched a large sand timer count down one minute and every single person in the room was silent - which is quite remarkable here at Newfield!
Stephen Irwen from Blackburn Museum also came into school in order to show everyone some of the excellent first world war collection that the museum has to offer, allowing the children to explore, handle and wear the artefacts whilst presenting them with some context.
It was a very special occasion and we now have some beautiful artwork around school to help us to remember those who have served our country in wars.
