BwD Diversity Event

Today, TG5 attended Blackburn with Darwen’s Diversity event at DW sports centre, where many people from different communities came together to celebrate diversity. It was a wonderful chance to learn about other different cultures. We tasted Somalia tea, coffee and various sorts of cakes as well as food from other countries. Dominic liked the spicy biryani! A Freedom song was sung by a group of people from different backgrounds. It was interesting to listen to the lyrics in various languages which were translated into English. Straight after the song there was a rap based on Human Rights which highlighted the value of people and their rights. It was really good to have a go at salsa dancing and we followed the technique like professionals! We met the Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen and viewed the awards ceremony which recognised contributions from the ethnic minority groups. Goodies were collected from stalls showcasing their organisation and we liked the man who did our names using Calligraphy. It was wonderful for the pupils to detach from their usual environment and experience a more grown-up world.
