COVID-19: how does the coronavirus pandemic affect autistic people?

One of the features of Autism is that people with Autism struggle with change.

The worldwide COVID-19 pandemic has thrown everything in our routines and daily lives into turmoil and this is a challenge for everyone, but for people with autism this sudden, unexpected change and disruption to everyday life is particularly difficult.

The level of unpredictability can be terrifying for autistic people who count on a routine to bring structure to the otherwise uncertain world.

This article explores how and why the current coronavirus pandemic effects people with autism and how to try to minimise the distress it causes including social stories and use of schedules.
