Duke of Edinburgh

This academic year one of our older classes have started work on the ‘Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award’. In order to receive the award our students have to complete a number of different tasks.

Staff have worked hard to adapt all of the tasks so that our students in the Autism department are able to access them.

They have been raising money for charity by making and selling items each week in school. This includes running a weekly healthy lunch stall, where school staff can buy salads, granola pots and much more. The pupils make the salad boxes with assistance from their staff team and assist to run the stall.

They have been getting involved in weekly walking activities in preparation for a longer walk and residential stay later this year.

The class have enjoyed spending time on a farm, cleaning and feeding different animals each week.

They have been joining in with music sessions each week in school, run by a volunteer who brings his guitar and encourages the pupils to join in, using a variety of instruments.

We are hoping that the Duke of Edinburgh will be an exciting way of gaining new, recognised qualifications in school in a way that is engaging and achievable for all of our students. Take a look at the web page to find out more.
