Autism Friendly Airports

Many families will be going on holiday this year and are extremely excited to get to the airport, for those with Autism this can be a very difficult experience filled with anxieties and sensory overload.

Some airports, including Manchester, have launched schemes to make it easier for those travelling with a family member with autism. Manchester now have a sunflower lanyard that can be requested to help in the airport, staff are trained to recognise the lanyard and act accordingly. This allows the family access to family and priority lanes when going through security and special assistance lane when arriving back in the UK.

Manchester also have a booklet available to download, which gives information for each terminal, it’s something that can be looked at prior to the trip to help individual to understand what they may see, hear or do in the airport, it also gives activities for when inside the airport such as ticking off noises you have heard or things you have seen. The booklet is very informative and will be a great support for many families.

So, when planning your next trip, be sure to have a look at the link attached, here you can download the booklet and find lots more information to help to make your family holiday fun for all.
